01Objectives+

The association exists on a not-for-profit, non-political, non-sectarian basis to promote the culture and art of AIMS communities, and includes objectives to:

  • Foster friendship and cultural relationships with other Australian communities
  • Cultivate understanding of AIMS culture through festivals, events, lectures and education
  • Promote harmonious relationships across Australian communities
  • Act as a channel of communication with government on welfare, social and economic matters
  • Provide counselling support for people facing family, employment or personal crises
  • Manage association resources judiciously for the benefit of the community
02Membership+

Membership is open to eligible applicants nominated by a current member and approved by the Managing Committee. Applications are made via the official membership form, and members are recorded in the Register of Members once fees are paid within 28 days of approval. Membership is personal and non-transferable (other than to immediate family), and members may resign with at least one month's written notice.

03Managing Committee+

The Managing Committee controls and manages the affairs of the association, and consists of four office-bearers — President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer — plus four elected executive members. Office-bearers are elected annually at the AGM and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms in the same office.

04Meetings+

An Annual General Meeting is held at least once each year. Special General Meetings can be convened by the Managing Committee or requisitioned by at least 25 eligible members (or 25% of members, whichever is higher). A quorum for general meetings is 25% of members or 25 members, whichever is less.

05Finances+

Association funds are drawn from membership fees, donations and other approved sources, held in the association's bank account, and applied in pursuit of the association's objects as determined by the Managing Committee. The financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

06Disputes & Discipline+

Disputes between members are first referred to the Managing Committee for mediation, and if unresolved, to the Board of Founders. A member facing a complaint is given at least 14 days to respond, and has the right to appeal any disciplinary resolution at a general meeting.

07Amendments & Winding Up+

The constitution may only be altered by special resolution (a three-quarters majority vote at a general meeting with 14 days' notice). If the association is wound up, any surplus assets are transferred to an approved, similar charitable organisation as determined by the Board of Founders.
